About: Testimonials
In 2008, after narrowly being defeated in a School Board election, I volunteered to be a mentor for Tahoe Youth and Family Services. They asked for a one year commitment. They asked if I knew enough Spanish to meet their father. I said, ‘yes’ and began mentoring a four year old because her ten year old sister had a mentor and she wanted one.  Their dad was raising them on his own and was working more than full-time. I tutored the ten year old in math for one year. Fourteen years later, I continue to mentor the same young women (sisters). Over the years, we have taken many hikes together, played at the beach, visited the library, read books, visited museums, attended performances and camped. They are now part of my family. They call me when they need advice. We share meals, have picnics at the beach and I have attended their high school graduations.  The oldest has now completed three A.A.s and is now attending a four year college.
